Tiffiani spent three years at Vista Maria after she was taken from her grandmother. A judge finally ordered her out.
Then came the photos. On More Than Just Luck, she tells Greg Wier that prospective foster families were shown pictures of her, and that the process felt like a car being sold in a catalog. She had already done three years in the Dearborn Heights facility. The exit was not a home. It was a listing. Today she is a medical professional. The episode is about the years between her grandmother's house and that life.

Three years is not a cooling-off period. It is a childhood spent inside a facility that was supposed to be temporary care. Tiffiani's account includes the removal from her grandmother, the stay, the judge's order, and the photographs that followed. The catalog line is hers, and it is precise. A catalog does not ask the product how it wants to be described. It selects an angle and waits for a buyer.
Greg Wier lets that comparison stand. Voices Unmuted is full of women describing the moment they realized the system was managing them rather than raising them. For Tiffiani, the photographs were that moment, arriving after a judge had already agreed she should not still be at Vista Maria. Getting out of the facility and getting a family were not the same event.
A civil lawsuit filed in Wayne County Circuit Court in April 2026 named six plaintiffs who say they were abused as minors while living at Vista Maria between 2000 and 2025. More than 100 former residents have come forward this year. More Than Just Luck has documented more than 25 stories of physical, psychological, and sexual abuse, unsafe conditions, and negligence at the facility.
She beat the foster care system in the sense that she got out and built a profession. She is clear that the system did not hand her that. A judge had to order the door open. The catalog was still waiting on the other side.
Hosted by Greg Wier, the author of "More Than Just Luck," a no-nonsense, real-life memoir about ambition, betrayal and triumph, this episode is part of "Voices Unmuted." The series keeps each account at full length because a short clip leaves out the part that matters: what the guest says the place was supposed to be, and what she says it was instead. Tiffiani on three years at Vista Maria and a catalog of photos is that account, written out so it can be read on its own.
